Apparently Alan Greenspan has died.
And nothing of value was lost.
If you want a real obituary for the man, go read the one at Lawyers, Guns & Money. It’s fine.
But if you want to really understand who he was, and what he was about, go read “Sewer, Gas and Electric” by Matt Ruff.
(If you’ve never read it, you should go read it anyway; it’s great.)
The various Randians in that book, which also features an AI simulation of Ayn Rand herself as a major character, should give you a pretty good idea of what Greenspan was like and the damage he inflicted upon the world.
The world is better off now he’s gone.
This blog is firmly on the side of speaking ill of the dead when they deserve it, and Greenspan more than earned any imprecations he receives.
Good bye, and good riddance.
