So, last week a significant vulnerability in the PHP programming language was announced.

It was a biggie.

And, needless to say, I spent a bunch of the week dealing with it at work since an estimated 70% of the sites on the Internet run at least some PHP.

Which did mean that the best choice for my personal stuff was to take down any system using PHP until I could get the time to update each one.

Which worked fine for some, since some of them were just a matter of updating to the latest PHP packages and restarting.

But not this site, oh, no.

This site was running on an older version of its operating system that had no path to upgrade to current (for complicated and stupid reasons involving Linux distribution vendors and corporate takeovers and probably elves at some point).

So it needed to be on a newly built machine, which took a while to get ready.

It’s also now on OpenBSD instead of Linux.

I had used to run everything on OpenBSD years ago, but had drifted into using Linux for things that’d be difficult or annoying to get setup on OpenBSD.

But now that Linux is allowing LLM-generated code into its kernel, I’ll be migrating back to OpenBSD.
