That’s not actually what it looks like in the server room.
But it’s not that far off, either.
Today is “System Administrator Appreciation Day“; there’s some history of the Day at WikiPedia (who need to pull their fingers out and recognize the employee union, by the way).
System Administrators, or SysAdmins, sysadmins, operations engineers, site reliability engineers and many other titles, are the folks who keep all the servers you rely on for there to even be an Internet worth having running.
The fact that you can read this site, or any site, at all is only because of sysadmins.
We are the folks who get paged in the middle of the night when something breaks.
And the folks who get up early and go to bed late to make sure everything works.
Always doing too much, with too little money.
So, go appreciate your sysadmins.
You may never see them, but they’re there.
