Back in February I posted You Need To Read This: The Authoritarians, where I suggested that book as absolutely necessary to understanding politics in the U.S. today.
Today, I think you should read Authoritarian Nightmare: Trump and His Followers.
This book is based on that one.
Which is fine, since Altemeyer wrote them both; it’s fine that maybe half of the new book is re-hashing material from the earlier one.
This one is less a sequal and more a panic-y hair-on-fire update, really.
Which is not entirely un-warranted.
Well, panic is never really warranted; it’s not useful to panic.
But it is useful to know when your hair is on fire, and this book makes the case that it’s an inferno.
So, if you’re wondering what the world’s foremost professional on authoritarian psychology thinks the state of the world is today, and what the future will likely hold, you should read this.
Just try to finish it before November.
