“Killed By A Big Beautiful Bill”.
What a stupid line to have to to put on a country’s tombstone.
Many, many commentators from the reality-based community have pointed out the many, many terrible things this legislation will do if it passes.
I’m not going to bother.
The United States government has fallen; if it doesn’t obey the Constitution of the United States, it cannot be the United States‘ government.
What sits in its place is not the United States any more, but it’s still a government.
It’s agents stalk the streets with no legal authority, their faces hidden; its institutions act on the whims of a dictator, unrestrained by the Constitution and laws of the United States. The Supreme Court’s rejection of the entire concept of judicial review should have made that quite clear last Friday.
But, amazingly, they still seem to care about the fig leaf of legitimacy that actually passing federal legislation confers?
Don’t let them have it.
Participating in any of this should be unacceptable to anyone who cares about the historical values that made this country what it was.
So shut down the departments and administrations, the commissions and boards.
And just go home.
Shut down the courts, unless you’re willing to take the risk of following the actual Constitution and laws.
Shut down the House of Representatives; shut down the Senate.
(Y’all don’t get to go home, sorry; shutting Congress down requires constant effort.)
But at this point, anything that moves this government forward is an attack on the United States and it’s entire history of not being a dictatorship.
You cannot make this better by going along with it; you can only make this less bad by refusing to be involved.
I’ve been banging this particular drum for a while now:
- Press Pause: Shut It All Down For A While
- No, Seriously: Shut It All Down Before It’s Too Late
- Don’t Fund The Reaper: Time For A Shutdown
- Hey, Chuck: Know When To Walk Away
It hasn’t visibly changed anything.
But it may not be too late, so I’ll say it again.
Shut the U.S. government down.
And turn off the lights on your way out.
