It’s quite good.

In yesterday’s post there, Rusty linked to a piece called “You don’t have to if you don’t want to.” by Scott Smitelli.

You should read that.

It’s a very well written, meandering and very long post about generative AI and modern culture.

And it accomplishes the amazing feat of being relatively gentle about the whole thing while still making it almost to the end before he says anything that I’d say is actually incorrect.

It happens where he says that he personally uses ChatGPT as a replacement for Google search, since Google search has gotten so bad over the past few years. The correct solution to that problem, obviously, is to switch to a search engine that hasn’t degraded itself not to switch to a smarmy bullshit generator.

But it’s really well written, and a pleasure to read.

Though it’s definitely a long-read, so give yourself a decent block of time for it.
