The Democrats have already missed the last chance they’ll have till Fall to rein in almost all of the coup’s excesses by refusing to fund them.
Way to go there, folks.
But Trump, damn his name is queuing (and couping) up another chance for the Democrats to actually do something about all this.
Because there’s no way the attack on Iran can be managed with the current funding allocations. It’s being reported to cost $2 billion per day for the current level of school-bombing that they’re up to.
There’s no way that can go on for very long without Congress having to top up the Department of Defense’s piggy bank.
So there will be another chance pretty soon to stop at least that.
And the Congressional Democrats need to take that chance.
Only a quarter of the population tells surveyors that they support the current Armageddon Project in Iran.
So stopping it is definitely the mainstream position, and shouldn’t scare even the most timid Democratic congresscritter.
(Much as abolishing ICE is now polling at above 50%, making that the mainstream view as well.)
And yet, somehow I’m not particularly optimistic about it.
Because the Democrats aren’t really opposed to authoritarianism.
So how could they put up a genuine opposition to it?
Their goals are just as authoritarian as the Republicans’, they just have different rules they want to impose on the rest of us.
And stopping these fascists for real might make it harder for the Democrats to impose what they want when they get the Oval Office next.
