Constitutional law professor Paul Campos of the Lawyers, Guns & Money blog has appeared here under the Read This tag before.
And for good reason.
He sees the current situation more clearly than their other authors do, and much more clearly than anyone in the normal media seems to.
His post today, titled “Trump is openly trying to steal the midterms“, is worth your time.
It’s not wrong:
Anybody who claims to know how all this is going to play out is wrong: We’ve never been in a situation in which the president of the United States was openly a wannnabe dictator, while the rest of the system had not yet adjusted to this reality.
Though I do think he’s wrong about the U.S. never having had an openly aspirational dictator in the presidency before.
But the previous ones have certainly not been deranged enough to actually make a try for it.
But that’s just a teensy niggle over detail.
The important part of the post is this:
As to what is to be done, the answer is that people need to be ready to resist, violently if necessary, the open theft of the 2026 election that will CERTAINLY be attempted, either before, during, or after the fact, or most likely some combination.
And on that he’s not wrong at all: there certainly will be many attempts to corrupt or even cancel this year’s elections and it really is absolutely imperative that we recognize that the federal government:
- does not have the authority to cancel the elections
- does not have the authority to interfere with the local operation of the elections
- absolutely must be stopped from any attempt it makes to do either of those things
If the 2026 elections are successfully corrupted, to even a quite minor degree, then that will set the stage for the 2018 elections to be even more corrupt.
And that would be the absolute end of the United States as it has been.
The United States has never been great, but it has been good at times and can be again.
But only if everyone involved in the illegal actions of the current regime is removed and prosecuted.
And that will never happen while they control the Presidency, the Supreme Court and Congress.
