Political Spelunking: The Democrats Are Gearing Up To Go Caving Again

Today, let’s take a step back from contemplating what a genuinely-opposition party would be like when a fascist movement has taken over the country’s government and talk instead about the allegedly-opposition party we actually have here in the United States (when a fascist movement has taken over the country’s government).

Yes, it’s … The Democrats.

Try not to get too excited.

This week, in response to another murder in Minneapolis by the Department of we-should-not-be-using-the-word-Homeland Security (DHS), the Senate Democrats issued a series of demands that all boil down to:

pass new laws requiring the DHS to follow the laws we already have

Yes, that is actually what they ‘re demanding in exchange for voting to keep funding the coup.

Instead of, for example, just not voting for funding the coup.

Now, the House (including several Democrats) have already voted for funding DHS and several other departments that are more coup-adjacent.

(DHS being the department where the fascist rubber really meets the legal road. As it were.)

And the Senate Democrats do seem fine with voting pro-coup on these other departments, despite the fact that they include State (which has been illegally revoking residency over protected speech) and Defense (which has been illegally murdering boaters and illegally kidnapping foreign Heads of State).

Just so we all know where the Congressional Democrats want to draw the line.

And, honestly, it’ll be surprising if enough Democrats actually vote against funding DHS to stop it from passing since we’re already seeing talk of dropping the minimalist new-laws-to-require-following-existing-laws position.

So, ya know, same as it ever was.

It’s long past time to give up on the Democrats as being an actual opposition to the fascist takeover of the country.

They haven’t been yet, they aren’t being now and there’s no reason to think that they ever will be.

It’s late, very late, to be having to build something new but for the U.S. to actually have an opposition party, we will have to drop the Democrats like the dead weight they’ve been for years and start with something new.
