Ah, burning Constitution png, I just can’t quit you.

So, most federal government web sites and even many federal employees’ personal email accounts’ out-of-office message are being used to display Republican party political ads.

But not (some) airports.

Airport facilities management is not really where I would have looked first to see signs of backbone; they have a very long history of going along with whatever unconstitutional nonsense the federal government asks for.

Secret no-fly lists and biometric scanners, to name just a few examples.

But in a surprising turn of events, it looks like showing these ads was a step too far.

Maybe it’s resistance to the trend that all things must praise the fascist leader, and maybe it’s just that airports make a lot of money on showing ads and don’t want to give the Republicans ad space for free?

Frankly it doesn’t matter which it is.

The fact that it’s both good politics and good business in the long run to reject a totalitarian State should be blatantly obvious, but having some public reminders that not everyone is on board with this is helpful.

“Look”, folks can say, “even the local airport, the people who went along with stupid theater like making you take off your belt to get on a plane, won’t join in on this so maybe I shouldn’t either.”

It’s not much, I admit.

No one should need a public reminder that the United States isn’t completely cowed yet, but clearly a lot of people do, so it’s not nothing.

So thanks, I guess?
