I want everybody
To get ready
‘Cause we about to shut down

I have said it before: just let the government shut down.

It beats the alternative.

Seriously.

When all three branches of the U.S. government are engaged in a project to get rid of all the good things the government actually does (education, infrastructure, social safety nets, disaster response, consumer protection, etc.), what possible argument can you make for not just letting it shut down for a while?

We lose nothing we’re not gonna lose anyway, and maybe we can slow down the conversion of the United States into a banana republic in the bargain.

What’s not to like about that?

Really.

What’s the argument that congressional Democrats want to make for not letting the government shut down?

Are they making a case that we actually should keep this government running somewhere and I’m just not seeing it?

No, they’re not.

I see enough news every day to be confident that if any congressional Democrat had put forward an actual reason to keep the money flowing now that I’d have heard about it.

It’s more that they’re just not seeing the regime’s actions as threatening anything they value much, so a shutdown seems like the more dangerous option from their perspective. Or they’re just operating on their default setting that any federal government, no matter how bad, is preferable to no federal government.

You’d think that federal goons accosting Representatives and Senators would have shown them the error of that perspective already. But apparently it has not.

So, once again, let it shut down.

The damage done by a shutdown is less than the damage that the federal government will do if allowed to continue as it’s going now.

So: shut it down.
