You really can’t understand the world we live in until you do.

Authoritarianism.

Authoritarianism is something authoritarian followers and authoritarian
leaders cook up between themselves. It happens when the followers submit too
much to the leaders, trust them too much, and give them too much leeway to do
whatever they want–which often is something undemocratic, tyrannical and
brutal.

“The Authoritarians”, Bob Altemeyer

Bob Altemeyer is a (now-retired) Professor of Psychology at the University of Manitoba, and quite possibly the world’s foremost expert on the phychology of authoritarians.

He’s certainly the world’s foremost popularizer of the research.

Given that he may very well be the only professional researcher to have written a popularly accessible book on the subject, I guess that’s not surprising.

But he’s giving away that book for free.

(And he’s posting occasional updates to it to address events as they happen.)

Because he’s concerned about what his research told him about our world and why it’s like this.

You should be concerned too.

But you should also be aware.
