The State means nothing without the law, and a State that ignores the law means nothing at all.

I’m gonna start with something that may not be popular with Democrats and Democrat-supporters.

The federal government should be deporting anyone who’s here illegally.

That’s what the law says it should be doing.

And a State that ignores the laws is no State at all; it’s just the biggest, best-equipped and best-organized gang around.

And not being ruled by the most powerful gang around is what States are actually for.

But, and I cannot stress this enough, it must do it legally.

And this is actually much more important.

The State must enact the law, but more importantly it must do that in accordance with the law.

So, yes: the law does say that the State has a responsibility to remove residents without authorization to be here. Of course it does; every modern State has laws about that and the actual laws of the United States aren’t particularly different from those of most other countries.

But the law has far more to say about how the government will go about its business, how its agents must act when on the government’s business and what powers it has to work with to pursue the tasks it’s been given.

And especially what powers it does not have.

And the law says very clearly:

  • police officers must be identifiable, both organizationally and individually
  • police officers must treat the people they deal with respectfully and professionally
  • police officers may not interfere with people except in clearly defined ways and for clearly defined reasons
  • police officers may not use force except under specific conditions
  • immigration personnel may not interfere with citizens or authorized non-citizens
  • military personnel may not be used for law enforcement except in specific emergency situations

All of these laws are being broken daily by the current regime in its pursuit of the fundamentally legitimate goal of identifying and deporting non-authorized residents.

And that is clearly and blatantly illegal.

The State does not get to choose which laws it will enact or follow and which it will disregard.

When it does that, it ceases to be a legitimate State and becomes no more than just another well-armed gang.

And it, and its agents, should be treated as such.
