Yesterday I suggested that, since it’s not possible at this point for any new political party to get on the ballot for this year’s elections (at least, in California; I don’t know about other states), one thing that it could do would be to write the platform as pledge and try to get other parties’ candidates to sign on to that.
So today let’s give that a whirl.
Here’s a version of that platform rewritten as a candidate pledge:
I pledge to provide zero support for and to actively oppose the unconstitutional and illegal actions of this administration.
I pledge to vote ‘no’ on any federal topic that does not either:
- remove the perpetrators from office,
- advance constitutional amendments to prevent such abuses of government power,
- call and schedule a constitutional convention, or
- dissolve the federal government.
I pledge to vote against and otherwise actively oppose:
- any nomination or appointment by this administration,
- any funding that could be used for the activities of this administration, and
- any other federal legislative, executive or judicial business that is not furthering the goals listed above.
I pledge to continue this until such time as the perpetrators of the unconstitutional and illegal acts of this administration have been removed from their positions and arrested.
Signed, __________.
I left out the stuff in the original about how to make decisions on other issues, since that’s not relevant to a candidate from one of the existing parties.
That’s up to their own party’s platform.
But the text above should be fine with any candidate from any party.
Unless they support the coup’s unconstitutional and illegal actions, that is.
Ask them, and find out.
