Party Time: The U.S. Needs An Opposition Party

The Democrats have been an abject failure as an opposition party to the Republicans current fascist moment.

A complete, total, abysmal failure.

While some individuals in the Democratic party have provided some moments of opposition, the party has done almost nothing.

They have not only voted to staff the coup from the beginning, but even today are voting to continue funding it.

That is not opposition; that is collaboration.

Not really useful there, Democrats.

An actual opposition party would:

vote against all appointments
vote against all funding
file new articles of impeachment daily
use every procedural method to grind Congress to a halt

The Democrats have done none of these.

The Democrats show no sign of realizing the urgency of the situation at all.

Except in their fundraising.

Their fundraising txt messages and emails do lean pretty heavily on the existential threat, it’s true, but that just means that they know enough to take advantage of the rhetoric.

It doesn’t mean that they’ll actually do anything about it.

Their fundraising has been employing apocalyptic rhetoric since Trump, damn his name was actually elected the first time around.

But they’ve yet to back up that rhetoric with action.

It’s passed time to stop expecting better of the Democrats.

We need a new party, an actual opposition party.

A party that commits to completely halting the federal government until this situation is dealt with and the perpetrators are in prison awaiting trial.

A party that anyone who opposes the fascist takeover of the United States can support because it commits to pursuing no policies other than dealing with the current crisis and fixing the problems that let it happen.
