All that tyrant blood, tragically unspilled.

This has been an ongoing annoyance for me, for pretty much as long as I’ve been paying attention to U.S. politics.

The U.S. militia movement is never around when they might actually be useful.

Seriously, this is an active political movement made up of guys (yeah, it’s almost entirely guys; not totally, though) who can go on forever about America, and freedom and watering the Tree of Liberty with the blood of tyrants.

Also the 2nd Amendment; they’re big fans of the 2nd Amendment.

Very patriot, much gung-ho.

Right up until there’s actually a bit of tyranny going on, that is.

Then, every time we see the U.S. government going off the rails like this, where are the militias?

Are they in the streets, protecting the people from unmarked cars of masked federal agents?

Are they monitoring public events, keeping the increasingly-stormtrooper-like police from venting their frustrations on a crowd of chanting college students?

Are they even visible, doing anything?

No.

[a tumbleweed rolls by]

Nothing; not a whisper.

Or, if they are visible and active, they’re supporting the side of tyranny.

Which is, frankly, more annoying than them just sitting it out.

We could do with a better and more organized concept of militias, I suppose, but other than that, I don’t really have a suggestion today.

Maybe plant a big garden this year?
